The Second String Orchestra (SSO) was founded in 2010 by Carrie Krause in Bozeman, Montana.
Carrie Krause, SSO artistic director, performs as violinist with ensembles across the country and on international series. She has appeared as concertmaster and soloist with Seattle Baroque, Juilliard 415, New Trinity Baroque in Atlanta, Pacific Baroque in Vancouver, and the San Francisco Bach Choir, as well as principal with The Thirteen in D.C., the Oregon Bach Festival, Apollo's Fire, and Spire in Kansas City. Carrie is concertmaster of the Bozeman Symphony, founder of the concert series Baroque Music Montana, and teaches students age 3 to infinity.
SAM PARK
Sam was the interim conductor of the SSO from 2013 - 2015. After that time, Sam was invited to play violin with the Oregon Symphony, so he moved to Portland to begin another musical adventure.
MATTHEW MAKEEVER
Bozeman native Dr. Matthew Makeever is the Founding Music Director and Conductor of the Milwaukee Philharmonic, and guest director for Second String Orchestra in Bozeman, MT. From 2019-2022, he served as the Assistant Conductor of the Salt Lake Symphony, and from 2021-2022, he was the Music Director and Conductor of the Taylorsville-SLCC Symphony Orchestra. Matthew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Montana State University, a double Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting and Trumpet Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Doctorate Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Utah.
