The Second String Orchestra is recruiting new members for the upcoming music season!

The Second String Orchestra (SSO) is a community string-based ensemble in Bozeman, Montana. It is designed for amateur adult classical musicians seeking a fun, challenging, and supportive musical community that performs diverse repertoire. This semester (Spring 2025) the orchestra will include strings, winds and brass.   

Qualifications:  
  • 3 years minimum playing experience
  • ability to read music with ease
  • play violin, viola, cello or bass, winds or brass

We are glad to announce that Matthew Makeever will be conducting SSO (Full Orchestra) for Spring 2025!  Rehearsals will be on Sundays 6:30-9pm January 12- March 30 at First Presbyterian Church with a Concert at the Ellen on April 5th.

The cost for participating this Spring is $125 ($135 after January 5th) and payments should be made directly to Matthew (Venmo @Matthew-Makeever or by check). We do have a crowd-funded scholarship fund that is available to help out if the cost is a barrier to participation.  Please send direct inquiries about the scholarship to Nancy Equall.
